DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TREATMENT & PREVENTION PROGRAMDesigned for men who have been violent with a partner or family member. This program is a certified Batterers’ Intervention Program, and it meets the County of Sonoma’s requirements as a court-ordered, 52-week treatment program for men convicted of acts constituting domestic violence. Self-referred clients may be accepted if they commit to a 52-week program. HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKSCFSA conducts weekly, two-hour groups for a maximum of eleven individuals per group. Groups are held Tuesday through Thursday in the evening. Under some circumstances, clients are treated individually rather than in group.Groups are open-ended; new participants are continuously added as others graduate. Experienced group members assist new members in learning safety rules and provide positive role modeling for change. Written in-class and homework assignments are given on a regular basis. Completion of these assignments help reinforce learning and is a requirement for graduation. The focus of the program is preventing physical, sexual and psychologically violent behaviors. Ongoing family safety is the primary concern with every client. Clients are assisted in developing more adaptive ways to solve conflict, communicate & manage stress. LENGTH OF PROGRAMAccording to California state law, persons convicted of domestic violence are required to attend a 52-week educational program as a component of their probation. Sonoma County’s Probation Department requires these sessions within a 60-week time period. Furthermore, research shows that longer, more in-depth programs are more effective in reducing violence.GROUP FACILITATORSCFSA’s group facilitators are licensed mental health professionals or interns under the supervision of a licensed professional. In addition, all clinicians working with perpetrators are either certified Batterers’ Intervention Program group facilitators or are in the process of obtaining that certification.FEESClients pay $85 for a program intake. This is a one-on-one assessment with the Program Coordinator to determine suitability for FSA’s program. This non-refundable fee must be prepaid in person in order to secure an appointment. Weekly fees are determined on a sliding scale beginning at $35 per session. The fee is based on household income (documentation is required).
